The Three Days: The Great Vigil of Easter, April 15, 2017 8:00 pm

This Week in Worship

Scriptures:  Genesis 1-2; Genesis 3:6-9; Genesis 12-50; Exodus 1-14; Ezekiel 36-37; Isaiah 55:1-11; Matthew 28:1-10; Romans 6:3-11.

The Easter Vigil Service is an ancient service, geared toward moving the Church from Holy Saturday to Easter Sunday.  It is meant to remind us of God's plan to redeem all creation through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  From the story of the creation through the history of the children of Israel, we follow the story of God's deliverance of His people.  Most of all, we recall and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who redeemed us and freed us from our slavery to sin, offering us life eternal by the merits of the empty grave.  We recognize our own death to sin and rising to new life in baptism, and we celebrate the risen Lord in our midst through the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

Announcements

Easter Sunday, April 16:  Sunday Light at 9:30 followed by Divine Worship at 10:45 am.  Communion will be celebrated.

We hope this has experience has aided your remembrance of the passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We believe the events of Jesus' last hours offer us the forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternal life with Him.  Yet it must be remembered that makes the traumatic and mournful events of this day powerful is the reality that this is not the end of the story...for the celebration of Jesus' resurrection from the dead on Easter gives us hope and peace, and the promise of eternal life.

The Three Days: Maundy Thursday, April 13, 2017-6:00 pm

This Week in Worship

Scripture:  John 13:1-17; 31-35

Meditation:  "Whom Will You Serve?"  Rev. Leslie

About this evening service:  Today is called "Maundy Thursday."  Maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum, which means "command." Tonight we keep the feast that Jesus shared with his disciples on the night of his arrest, and we remember his new commandment to love one another even as he has loved us.  We celebrate with a "Fellowship Meal" or "Love Feast" which concludes with Holy Communion.  Tonight is the beginning of the "Three Days of Easter," which are the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Bessemer’s Per Capita for 2017

Per Capita is a “per capita” contribution that supports the ongoing ministries of the Presbyterian Church, the Synod of the Trinity, and the Presbytery of Shenango. Whether you are aware of it or not, our presbytery is vastly supportive of our congregation and our mission. Because we wish to continue our contributions and enable the mission of the greater church, we ask each member to consider donating their part. The breakdown is as follows:

                             Presbytery of Shenango $ 28.06

Synod of the Trinity +$ 2.30

   General Assembly +$ 7.50

Total Apportionment $ 37.86 per member

Raise the Roof Campaign

We have launched our Raise the Roof Campaign to replace the roof on the church.  Pledge cards are available on the narthex table.  Building Fund/Raise the Roof envelopes are available in the pews.
